The 2024-25 ice fishing season has begun.

As one door closes, another one opens with the start of ice fishing. Some are venturing out, but extreme caution should be exercised.

Mother Nature is telling us this week that winter isn’t too far away, and with that in mind, many people have stored their boats for the season. So the reports are somewhat limited, except here.

The recent weather defintely has more people putting away their boats than using them. But those who chose the latter have definitely been happy about their choice as some nice walleye have been caught lately.

Oahe continues to be the hot bite across the state.

The fall bite is definitely on in many locations, especially on Oahe.

As the water temperatures continue to drop, the walleye bite is definitely heating up.

The weather continues to be more like September with the wind and warmer temperatures, but despite the cooler nighttime temps, the water temps aren’t dropping as fast as they should due to the warmer daytime

The shore bite continues to improve on area lakes from dusk on. The panfish bite remains strong, especially on lakes like Big Stone.
