Minnesota’s legislative auditor said last Friday that he’s investigating a data privacy breach at the DNR in which an employee accessed the driving or motor vehicle records of about 5,000 people without authorization.

Elk hunters had a tough go of it during December, not shooting any animals in either the Kittson County or Grygla areas.

Monday was “media day” at the Wildlife Research Institute outside Ely, and Dr. Lynn Rogers answered the questions of reporters, including those regarding a research bear’s twin cubs.

A license fee hike long sought by the Minnesota DNR, as well as with some of the state’s conservation groups, became reality last legislative session.

The driver’s license and motor vehicle data of about 5,000 people was improperly accessed by a DNR employee who no longer is with the agency, the DNR reported earlier this week.

There’s a lot on the DNR’s agenda in 2013.
