New York DEC: Public comments sought on Big Moose Tract Conservation Easement

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is seeking public comments on the draft Recreation Management Plan (RMP) for the Big Moose Tract Conservation Easement in the town of Webb, Herkimer County.
The Big Moose Tract is approximately 23,850 acres and contains commercially managed forestland, several small ponds, portions of Birch, Fourth, Sunday, and Twitchell creeks, the Independence River, and the West Branch of the Beaver River.

National Shooting Sports Foundation releases firearm production report

The National Shooting Sports Foundation recently released the Firearm Production in the United States including the Firearm Import and Export Data 2023 Edition (reporting 2021 data) to its members.
The report compiles the most up-to-date information based on data sourced from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF’s) Annual Firearms Manufacturing and Export Reports (AFMER).

Wisconsin’s Leah Saffert, age 10, catches 50-inch, 34-pound muskie through the ice

Fishing with her dad and brother, 10-year-old Leah Saffert, of Rice Lake, Wis., was tending tip-ups on Minnesota’s Lake of the Woods when she hooked, and then landed, a 50-inch muskie Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023, in the Zippel Bay area on the huge lake’s south shore.
When the flag popped, the spindle started spinning and young Saffert set the hook.

Several donations lined up for Wisconsin Natural Resources Board’s Jan. 24 meeting

With the DNR secretary seat still vacant with the early November resignation of former DNR Secretary Adam Payne, DNR Assistant Secretary Steven Little will be on hand Wednesday, Jan. 24, to present several donations to the Natural Resources Board (NRB).
NRB members also are expected to act on proposed black bear harvest quotas for the 2024 season, along with a number of scope statements and a proposed land purchase.
