USFWS adds information on ‘swan’ poaching case in west-central Minnesota

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Thursday provided additional details on a poaching case involving more than a dozen swans found dead in Stevens County in west-central Minnesota last month.
Today, Thursday, Jan. 25, the agency said the swans had been shot and included both trumpeter and tundra swan. Previously, the USFWS would not confirm the species of the birds; the shooting occurred between December 16 and 17, 2023.

Brainerd Jaycee announces ‘hybrid’ model for 2024 Ice Fishing Extravaganza in Minnesota on Feb. 3

Thanks to unseasonable high temperatures forecasted for next week, the Brainerd Jaycee Ice Fishing Extravaganza in Minnesota has updated its plans for its 2024 tournament scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 3.
The event is transitioning to a hybrid model using Fish Donkey as the platform while maintaining the Feb. 3 date but with extended contest hours on multiple Brainerd-area lakes.

New York DEC’s summer camps registration begins March 24

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation recently announced that online registration for DEC’s 2024 Summer Camps program will open Sunday, March 24, at 1 p.m.
Now in its 77th year, the DEC Summer Camps program offers week-long adventures in conservation education for children ages 11-17.

USFWS updates information on ‘swan’ poaching case in west-central Minnesota

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service on Tuesday provided additional details on a poaching case involving more than a dozen swans found dead in Stevens County in west-central Minnesota last month.
On Tuesday the agency said 15 dead swans were discovered on private property in Stevens County. The property is near the intersection of 260th Street and 520th Ave, near the southwest corner of Lamprecht Waterfowl Production Area.
