Report: U.S. hunting license sales for 2022-23 reflect slight decline

The Council to Advance Hunting and the Shooting Sports in collaboration with Southwick Associates recently released its annual report on hunting license sales, revealing a relatively steady trend for the 2022-2023 license year.
According to the report, over 80% of participating states experienced a change of 5% or less in hunting license sales from the previous year.

New York DEC proposals would tweak certain local trout stream regulations

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has released a list of proposed changes for select trout stream regulations to align with DEC’s Trout Stream Management Plan.
The proposals aim to protect wild populations and optimize fishing opportunities for anglers to catch trout on certain waterbodies, including on Long Island, along the Southern Tier, in the Hudson Valley, and other regions. DEC will be accepting public comments on the proposed amendments through Sept. 9.

‘Big Saint’ offers healthy array of game fish, panfish in Wisconsin’s Vilas County

The DNR fisheries team out of the Woodruff office surveyed Big Saint Germain Lake in 2021. A previous survey had been done in 2011. Big Saint stands as one of Vilas County’s most popular fishing lakes thanks to its panfish and game fish species, and its abundant structure.

Freshwater Fishing Hall of Famer Greg Bohn, wife Audrey, die in three-vehicle crash

Well-known fishing guide Gregory R. Bohn, 70, and his wife, Audrey J. Bohn, 70, both of Hazelhurst,Wis., died in a multi-vehicle crash on Hwy. 51 near their home in Hazelhurst on Friday, July 12.
The crash was reported at about 2:30 p.m. near South Blue Lake Road in the town of Hazelhurst. Witnesses say the driver of a northbound 2017 Toyota Camry stopped in the lane of traffic to make a turn when the car was struck from behind, pushing it into an oncoming southbound vehicle.
