St. Paul An environmental group has sued the U.S. Forest Service to stop land swaps it says could allow new development along the edges of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.

Ortonville, Minn. High water conditions on Big Stone Lake have prompted South Dakota officials, as well as those from the state of Minnesota and the Big Stone County Board of Commissioners, to declare emergency action making the entire border waters lake

The declaration will be in effect until the elevation of Big Stone Lake has remained below 970 feet mean sea level for three consecutive days. At that point, a declaration will be made lifting the no wake restriction. The Big Stone walleye opener is April 28.
