The cold weather has dropped the water temperature as much 10 degrees, which has slowed the ground fishing least temporarily.  The coldest water is between Fire Island and Shinnecock inlets. The good news is that the water will likely take longer to warm and extend the ground fishing season a few weeks.  The open boats

The folks at FISH307 report plenty of ice on Lake George, with superb action for lake trout and most fish above the lake’s 23-inch size minimum. Perch action has been good as well; Harris Bay has been producing some good ringbacks. And more landlocks have been taken via jigging and tip-ups than in recent years.

Diverting Reservoir: Safe ice at last check, and perch were offering up some decent action at times. West Branch Reservoir: Hard-water anglers were picking up some small perch and the occasional brown trout. Lake Gilead: Anglers were on and targeting primarily trout. Middle Branch Reservoir: Safe ice, but not hearing much on the fishing.

For fly-fishers, Flyfest will take place on Saturday, Feb 7, at the Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum. This is a great opportunity to learn new tying techniques or just to learn how to tie if you always wanted to. Not much else happening on the fly-fishing front. Catskill Flies

St. Lawrence River: Anglers are out pretty much all over – Lake of the Isles and Goose, Eel and Chippewa Bays – but at last check the perch were running small. Black Lake: Pike and perch have been offering up some pretty consistent action, and some anglers have found the bigger ringbacks.
