80,000 rainbow trout to be stocked across Ohio

The Ohio DNR (ODNR) Division of Wildlife will release more than 80,000 rainbow trout at 93 locations beginning in March.
The locations were chosen to give as many anglers as possible a chance to reel in these feisty fish in March, April, and May. Trout releases are designed for high angler success and harvest, according to the Division of Wildlife.

Iowa DNR asks for public to report prairie chicken sightings

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is looking for prairie chickens this spring and Iowans can help.
Iowa’s prairie chicken population had resided in three locations in Ringgold County — two on or near the Kellerton Wildlife Area; the third on private land — but have been seen in Union, Clarke, Decatur and Taylor counties.

Channel catfish are biting across Iowa right after ice out

Channel catfish move close to shore and are eager to bite in many lakes and large reservoirs across Iowa just after the ice is gone. The bite starts sooner in southern Iowa impoundments since they lose ice before northern Iowa lakes.
After eating light during the winter, channel catfish are prone to feed heavily during early spring, cleaning up small fish that died over the winter.

Minnesota DNR announces open water fishing regulations for Upper Red Lake

State anglers fishing on Minnesota’s Upper Red Lake during the 2026 open-water season that starts Saturday, May 9, will have a five-walleye possession limit, with only one walleye longer than 17 inches allowed. This is the same regulation that was in place for the 2025 open-water season.
“Upper Red Lake walleye have been managed at a level that, among other factors, resulted in a number of recent strong year classes,” said Andy Thompson, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources area fisheries supervisor for Bemidji.
