Washtenaw is now the 15th Michigan county where chronic wasting disease has been identified in the wild deer population, according to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. An adult buck found acting ill in Salem Township recently tested positive for CWD.
The Michigan State University Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, which works with the DNR to identify CWD in Michigan’s wild deer herd, confirmed the CWD finding. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Veterinary Services Laboratory, in Ames, Iowa, also confirmed the test result.

The Minnesota DNR’s State Climatology Office is seeking rainfall monitors for the Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network. The network includes more than 20,000 volunteers nationwide who measure precipitation in their backyards by using a standard 4-inch-diameter rain gauge.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) on Wednesday announced the necropsy results for a snowy owl recently found deceased in New Glarus.
When the owl was found dead on Feb. 5, 2025 in New Glarus, there were no apparent signs of the cause of death. A DNR conservation warden collected the carcass so that it could be submitted to the National Wildlife Health Center in Madison for necropsy and diagnostic testing.
