Low quota, tagged sturgeons part of Michigan’s Black Lake success
Having roughly 653 registered anglers from 10 states participating in the 2026 sturgeon season at Black Lake was encouraging for both Michigan DNR and groups working to improve sturgeon populations.
The fact that five of the six fish caught by anglers had previously been tagged by biologists was even more encouraging – a sign that long-term monitoring is working, according to DNR Fisheries Biologist Neal Godby.
