Hunters set new Pennsylvania bear-harvest record

The Red Lake Band of Chippewa Indians does not permit non-Indians to hunt bear, a clan animal, within the boundaries of the reservation, due to the bear's spiritual significance to the tribe, prosecutors said.

Although numbers are continuing to come in, and bear hunting remains open through Saturday in some of the state’s Wildlife Management Units, as of today, the 2019 preliminary bear harvest sat at 4,577.
