Steve Gilbert: Who is Wisconsin perch-record holder Mike Lamont and does he know he’s famous?

This is a replica of the fish recognized as the Wisconsin state record yellow perch, based on the reported weight of that fish. The plaque lists a length of 151⁄2 inches, but this was an estimate provided by DNR staff at the time the display was constructed. I have always been interested in the stories behind Wisconsin’s state record fish. In most cases, with time and lucky breaks, I have been able to piece together some of the stories.
My search for the details of the story, or lack thereof, behind the Wisconsin record yellow perch has gone nowhere. If you read my two previous columns, you may be burnt out on yellow perch record fish. But stick with me one more time on this topic and I promise to make it relatively short.
