Steve Pollick: Take a hike. It just might clear the mind

Dale “Grey Beard” Sanders is a boots-on-the-ground hero, deservedly so given his recent feat that casts fresh light on the noble outdoor pursuit of hiking.
Sanders, 91, officially reclaimed the record as the oldest person to through-hike the entire Appalachian Trail (AT) on Aug. 31. It took him 359 days, weathering 71 falls, and a temporary health scare that put him in a hospital in Maine. Not to mention something like 4 million-plus bootsteps.
