Minnesota’s 2026 roadside survey shows a 20% jump in pheasants

The 2026 August roadside survey showed an increase in Minnesota’s overall ring-necked pheasant population, with some regions benefiting more than others.
Steven Woodley, DNR senior wildlife research biologist, said the survey index for total pheasants showed a 20% jump from 2025. Woodley said many hens saw successful nesting efforts this spring and early summer. Drier and warmer weather created ideal conditions for nesting and brood rearing.
