Pennsylvania stocking fewer steelhead in recent years

Pennsylvania anglers may begin to see fewer steelhead in Lake Erie tributaries this fall as a result of stocking reductions that began three years ago.
After decades of stocking about 1 million smolts a year, the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission began in 2024 to taper its numbers by more than half following a disease scare at the Tionesta State Fish Hatchery.
