This was going to be easy.
The hard part – getting on the sometimes-surly Lake Erie – was over. Terry Catlin, of Chemung, N.Y.; my brother-in-law Don Stannard, visiting from Florida; and I were greeted by calm, almost flat conditions on the big lake that’s capable of keeping you shorebound, drinking coffee at Tim Horton’s while watching 5-foot and bigger waves crashing over the breakwall.
