David Argent’s first fishing rod was one he crafted himself from a stick, a piece of found fishing line, and a hook fashioned from a nail.
He was 8 years old and on a family outing at Moraine State Park, in Butler County, Pa. “My father had a rod for himself and I wanted to participate, so I took the initiative,” recalled Argent, 55, who managed to catch a few bluegills and bass on his jury-rigged gear. “It blossomed from there.”
