One grass carp was spotted, but there were no signs of bighead or silver carp during an intensive two-week spring sampling of in the Chicago Area Waterway System.
The sampling, led by Illinois DNR, took place in May, representing the first of two major “seasonal intensive monitoring” events that also include crews from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
