Gregg Eckman of Grand Forks knows how to read a trout stream, especially the Clearwater River which winds through the forests and fields about 15 miles northwest of Bemidji.
“The Clearwater River is kind of my home water,” he said. “I grew up about 10 miles north of it and I’ve been fishing it since 1976 or 1977. I caught trout back then and I usually can catch a few trout now.”
