Here’s how to maximize your catch in late summer when bass school up

August kicks off the fall feeding season for bass in the north country, which means anglers can expect to start running into schools of largemouths and smallmouths. While schooled-up bass can be provide plenty of tight-line action, it pays to fish through the school in a way that will keep them biting as long as possible. (Contributed photos)

It might seem too early to start thinking about fall bass and their tendency to school up, but it’s not. The nights are dangerously close to turning chilly, and the water temperatures that rose all spring and early summer are about to reverse course.
With this change comes a behavioral shift by both largemouth and smallmouth bass.
