Being a public watchdog sometimes means sitting through boring legislative hearings and wading through long reports, then summarizing them for readers.

Like this past Sunday evening, when I spent time perusing the thrilling, 102-page February 2025 Budget and Economic Forecast from the Minnesota Management and Budget office. The report arrived last week, and tucked into the bottom of Page 47 was a cold sentence that only a CPA could love.
