A simple track in the snow and a bit of scat served to delight county wildlife officer Nick Oliver and research technician Doug Wensink on Jan. 8, during the annual river otter survey in Ohio.
The survey looks at 422 sites around the state for evidence of river otters. For the first time, the pair spotted solid evidence that river otters had spread south and west to Champaign County.
