Here’s how to keep your hunting dog’s paws in top shape during off-season exercise

It’s officially the off-season for most bird dog owners. While it would be easy to phone it in for a few months and not train or exercise your dog too much, that’s a bad idea. A better bet is to keep going, but pay attention to winter conditions that could be hard on a dog’s paws. (Contributed photos)

Unless you’re game to head out of state, most of the bird-hunting opportunities in Minnesota have come to a close. Adventurous souls with the time and money could head off to Nebraska or maybe Arizona to keep scratching the upland itch, but for most of us, the off-season starts now.
Our dogs don’t know this, but, of course, they still need to get outside to get exercise.
