Back in the ’80s, when I lived in Texas, I used to make annual pilgrimages to southeast Oklahoma or western Arkansas, to fish for smallmouth bass in the streams in the Ouachitas (which pass for mountains in that part of the world, sort of like the Porcupines do here in Michigan).
I grew up fishing for smallmouths and though there was some pretty good brown bass fishing to be found in Texas, it was typically in deep, clear-water, canyon-type reservoirs, not in streams.
