The digital world has brought our species a long list of tools that can enhance outdoor experiences. A good example is the ubiquitous smartphone that even “mature” outdoor enthusiasts including myself always carry into the woods and onto the rivers and lakes they frequent.
A smartphone can be a security lifeline in an emergency, and can help us identify everything from unusual plants to edible mushrooms, and even the rocks below and the stars above us.
