On paper, the 2023 Minnesota fishing opener looks like it should be a good one. That wasn’t the case just a couple of weeks ago when ice still covered a large portion of the state’s lakes, with some serious concerns across northern Minnesota.
But with four days of summer-like temperatures in mid-April and an extended stretch of extremely windy conditions shortly thereafter, most of the ice disappeared before everyone’s eyes.
