Frost clung to the hayfield, causing every stem to appear silver at first light. A hunter eased into his stand along the narrow creek bottom. It was the kind of spot most hunters would overlook because it was small, and at first glance, appeared very ordinary. This hunter knew better.
He’d seen deer slip through the brushy corridor as they moved from a woodlot bedding area, toward the cut hayfield behind him. It wasn’t glamorous country by any stretch of imagination, but it held whitetails that valued the secure travel route between the two habitats.
