When the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation transitioned to a Structured Decision Making (SDM) computer modeling approach for selecting duck seasons in 2019, many waterfowlers prayed that Western Zone dates would remain close to previous years.
Instead, the new dates radically altered the season, essentially eliminating the entire month of November. Worse yet, these dates were locked in for five years.
