Spring thaw showed severity of winter deer losses in Michigan’s northern Lower Peninsula
If the number of dead deer that people found this spring in Michigan’s Emmet County is any indication, winter losses were probably high throughout the region.
Many of the dead deer are believed to have died due to terrible snow conditions. The spring melt revealed the remains.

National meeting of Ikes brings conservation gathering to Minnesota this week
The Izaak Walton League of America (IWLA), one of the nation’s oldest and most respected conservation organizations, will hold its annual three-day national convention at the Hilton Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport in Bloomington beginning Thursday, July 16.
More than 300 members and volunteers from chapters across the nation are expected to attend. The gathering’s 2026 theme is “Get It Done: Turning Passion into Action,” an overture to the League’s historical mission to protect and preserve the nation’s “woods, waters and wildlife.”

Can walleye fishing get any better on Lake Erie? Ohio Outdoor News asked an expert
Lake Erie’s incredible walleye fishery at the present time is well-documented. The real question is: Can it get any better?
To answer that query, Ohio Outdoor News turned to Travis Hartman, the Ohio DNR Division of Wildlife’s Lake Erie program administrator.

Medina to host big Ohio clay shoot in late July
With a few more weeks to go, more than 500 shooters were already registered for the 2026 Ohio State Sporting Clays and FITASC Championship being held at Hill ‘n Dale Club from Thursday, July 30, through Sunday, Aug. 2.
Shooters from as near as Kentucky and Michigan and as far as California and Florida will be competing at the scenic Medina venue.
