Official harmful algal bloom forecast calls for moderate bloom on Lake Erie

Scientists with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) are calling for a moderate algae bloom on Lake Erie this summer. Scientists, elected officials, media, and other interested parties converged at Ohio State University/Ohio Sea Grant’s F. T. Stone Laboratory on Gibraltar Island in Put-in-Bay on June 25 for the 14th annual harmful algal bloom (HAB) forecast for Lake Erie.
The prediction is offered by Rick Stumpf, from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Center for Coastal Ocean Science, with input from a consortium of researchers, modelers, and agency experts.
