The Superior National Forest temporarily will close all public access to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness beginning at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, as hot, dry and windy conditions fuel a surge of wildfires across northeastern Minnesota.
Forest officials announced the closure today, citing rapidly changing fire behavior, heavy smoke and the difficulty of carrying out emergency rescues in the remote, 1-million-acre wilderness.
