Jeremiah Haas: Reflecting on 250 years of the outdoors in the U.S.

Just as the Roosevelt Arch states as you enter into Yellowstone National Park, “For the Benefit and Enjoyment of the People,” the protection of our outdoors was a world’s first movement, occurring within the first 100 years of our nation’s founding. (Photo by Jeremiah Haas)

America was founded on a set of principles in that our rights come from God, not from the government, and that we were free people that could determine our own paths. These principles were unique amongst the countries of the world at the time; hence the great experiment began 250 years ago.
When you think about the outdoors in 1776, it was just a little different than now.
