Summer tick season now heavy in Ohio

Three species – the American dog tick, the blacklegged tick (pictured), and the lone star tick – are among the most likely ticks to be encountered in Ohio. (CDC photo)

Public health authorities say tick activity is currently very high in Ohio, with a significant increase in tick-related emergency room visits and Lyme disease cases statewide. Eastern Ohio remains a major hot spot, though established populations of blacklegged (deer) ticks are found in 61 counties.
