Pennsylvania Game Commission drones applying herbicide on wetlands to fight invasives

The Pennsylvania Game Commission is taking to the air to fight invasive plant species.
The agency began using drones to apply herbicide targeting non-native, invasive plant species in 2025, focusing on wetland areas. Among the species treated were purple loosestrife, common reed, narrowleaf cattail and European frogbit. So far, the herbicide applications via drone have been conducted on state game lands in Crawford, Lawrence Mercer, and Tioga counties, but there are plans to expand the range.
