Southern Minnesota fawn study enters its final year

For the past five years, DNR researchers have tracked fawn mortality in the southern part of the state. Data have shown what the average survivability is and how fawns adjust to their habitat as they get older. The data should help manage deer in the future. (Minnesota DNR photos)

After a 20-year hiatus, a new fawn survival study in southern Minnesota is almost complete. It offers insight into deer population trends and management.
Researchers with the DNR launched the five-year study to track fawn survival and movement across the region. The project, which began planning in 2019, is now in its final year.
