Minnesota lawmakers address AI concern over fraudulent DNR licenses

Minnesota lawmakers are advancing legislation to address fraudulent hunting, fishing, and recreational licenses, a trend that DNR Enforcement says has increased via the use of artificial intelligence.
HF4192, authored by Rep. Dave Pinto, DFL-St. Paul, and its Senate companion SF4206, authored by Sen. Judy Seeberger, DFL-Lakeland, would strengthen enforcement tools and penalties. Lt. Col. Robert Gorecki, assistant DNR director of enforcement, said current law limits how officers can respond directly to fraudulent documents.

Walleye netting season starts for Iowa DNR fish hatcheries

Iowa’s annual walleye collection has begun at Rathbun Lake, as well as on the Mississippi River. Collection efforts will begin in the next few days at Storm, East Okoboji, and Spirit lakes. 
In lakes, crews with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Bureau set gillnets at night in traditional areas looking for walleyes that are ready to spawn.

Missouri considers regulation changes for nonresident deer hunters; public invited to comment

The Missouri Department of Conservation is asking the public for feedback on potential regulation changes for nonresident deer hunters.
One regulation change under consideration for the 2026 deer season would reduce the nonresident antlered buck bag limit from two to one. Nonresident landowners would maintain an antlered buck bag limit of two.

Four fish that earned spots in Michigan DNR’s Master Angler Program in 2025 came from Otter Lake – and three of the four were bass.
That bit of information likely comes as no surprise to anglers who frequent the 890-acre Houghton County water, which has enjoyed a reputation with the state’s bass anglers. What may be a surprise – a pleasant one at that – is that new classes of bass appear to be growing at a good pace.

‘Habitual offender’ gets jail time, 7-year fishing ban in Michigan

Labeled by Michigan DNR as a “habitual offender,” a Macomb County man with a history of skirting the state’s wildlife laws will do jail time for the most recent offense of fishing without a license – and also fishing while his license was revoked.
Derek Dermyer also will have his Michigan fishing privileges revoked for seven years.
