The Minnesota DNR invites those interested in Rainy Lake fisheries management to share their thoughts on a draft update of the plan for the lake.
The Rainy Lake Fisheries Management Plan was last updated in 2013. It is important for the next update to reflect current public values and attitudes about how the lake should be managed.

Step one is pounding the bottom. Drop your jig or spoon and let it hit the mud or sand repeatedly. This creates a “puff” of silt that mimics a feeding frenzy or a burrowing/hatching insect, drawing fish in from a distance.

Ducks Unlimited recently recognized Jeff Tillma with its 2026 Minnesota Conservation Partner of the Year award and Brittany Nosbush with the 2026 Beyond The Call award. Tillma is the Minnesota DNR Fish & Wildlife Division’s land acquisition coordinator based in Grand Rapids, and Nosbush is DNR’s senior realty specialist based in New Ulm.

There’s no shortage of lakes with the name Cedar in Minnesota. According to the DNR website, there’s 16 counties in the state that contain at least one Cedar Lake, which makes it one of the more prominent names for Minnesota water bodies.
Wright County alone has four of them! Among those four is Cedar Lake near Annandale, a 790-acre fishery that has a well-deserved reputation for kicking out largemouth bass and respectable panfish.
