Chute Pond supports a good overall fishery, based on results of a 2024 comprehensive survey (early spring, late spring, and fall). While most fish species have shown decreases in abundance compared to the 2013 survey, catch rates of predator species (largemouth bass and northern pike) and prey species (panfish) are still quite high compared to similar waters. In preparation for attending the Western New York Sport and Travel Expo at the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg, N.Y., I was talking with long-time show promoter Mark Concilla of Erie, Pa. He was excited about his new keynote seminar speaker, Melissa Bachman, who will be a part of the show that is set for March 6-8 this year.
Illinois trappers and hunters sold 374 raccoons, 250 muskrats, and 177 beavers during the annual Illinois Trappers Association Fur sale last month in Strasburg. The three species easily dominated the sale – at least when it comes to volume.
