Popular ice fishing derby ending its run in Illinois

The popular annual ice fishing event in Wauconda is preparing for “The Final Derby” – though the event’s future is unclear.
Mike Rodgers, who, with longtime neighbor Ryan Jacobsen, started the Lake Villa Veterans Association (LVVA) Ice Fishing Derby in 2009, said the 2026 installment, scheduled for Jan. 30-31 on Bangs Lake, will be the last for its current iteration.
