Minnesota DNR solicits comments on Robbins Marsh project, as feds plan drawdown at Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge

Both Minnesota and federal officials have identified shallow lakes in need of some TLC, for the benefit of wildlife. East Pool is targeted for a drawdown at Big Stone National Wildlife Refuge. (Photo courtesy of Big Stone NWR)

The Minnesota DNR is accepting public comment through Feb. 7 on a proposed plan that would designate Robbins Marsh in Murray County – a popular regional waterfowling destination – as a wildlife lake.
State officials say the wildlife lake designation is important for shallow-lake management because it gives the DNR legal authority to use a water-control structure for temporary water-level drawdowns. The proposed project, if approved, would include building and operating such a structure.
