Ohio angler leads effort drawing attention to perch issues in Lake Erie

Jim Saxa, of Mentor, Ohio, has been leading a push that he calls the Yellow Perch Restoration Initiative since 2022 to force the Ohio Division of Wildlife (DOW) to take action to boost the yellow perch population in Lake Erie’s Central Basin.
The fisheries agencies adjacent to Lake Erie (Ontario, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York) divide Lake Erie into four perch Management Units.
