Final algal index on Western Lake Erie rated mild in 2025

On Dec. 4, after a longer wait than usual to learn the results, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) released its annual Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) Severity Index (SI) score for Western Lake Erie.
The score is based upon calculations of the peak 30-day biomass of algae in the Western Basin of Lake Erie.
