Man, did I touch a nerve a couple of issues back with my column in this space detailing two big poaching cases prosecuted by the Ohio DNR Division of Wildlife.

And one of the other hotspot states is changing things up in ways that might benefit the turkey population, and hunters, in Pennsylvania. Missouri has long been a turkey hunting magnet, but recent concerns about hunting pressure and crowding – particularly on public land – has led the state Department of Conservation to make a significant change targeting nonresident hunters.

The story of the heaviest bear taken during Pennsylvania’s 2025 season

Nate Miller, a 38-year-old construction worker from Beaver County, had the hunt of a lifetime on the opening day of Pennsylvania’s regular firearms bear season.
Miller’s friend, Dan Druschel, provided Miller with the GPS coordinates for a spot in Butler County where he had seen lots of bear sign earlier in the year. Those coordinates led him to Moraine State Park in northwestern Butler County.
