Lots of critters can entertain treestand-bound deer hunters

Whether it’s owls predating on flying mammals, whitetail does beating up on bobcats, or simply belligerent grouse, seasoned hunters recognize that hours and days spent in a treestand produce memories that one will never capture without a break from civilization. (Photo courtesy of Bill Marchel)

A deer hunter’s elevated stand offers a unique portal into nature. 
I thought about this last week while perched in an ash tree 17 or so feet above the ground, bow and arrow in hand. It was late afternoon, the air cool and dry, and a light northwest wind commanded just enough muscle to shudder stubborn fall foliage.
