Tom Venesky: George Slinzer — a legend of the archery world who shouldn’t be forgotten

George Slinzer passed away in 2001, and to many who knew him he was simply the caretaker for a small borough in Luzerne County, Pa.
But in the world of archery, Slinzer was a giant. Ten years ago, when I covered the outdoors for a daily newspaper, a reader called me wanting to know if there was any interest in doing a story on Slinzer. I admittedly never heard of him. That’s one reason why I wanted to do the story back then, and also retell it today.
