Youth hunt sets the deer stage for the Illinois season

The 2025 youth season, which is set for Oct. 11-13, will again serve as a preview of sorts to next month’s regular firearms season. (File photo by Bill Key)

Forty percent of the deer taken during the 2024 youth season in Illinois were adult females, indicating young hunters are slightly less likely than regular archery and firearms hunters to pass on a doe to wait for a buck.
Then again, numbers don’t always tell the whole story.
