Steve Carney: It’s OK to acknowledge the hatch of the bugs will win

You certainly can continue to catch walleyes throughout the warm summer months, and through bug hatches, too. But Carney’s advice is to not fight the hatch. Walleyes stuffed with forage aren’t easy to catch. Rather, head to a secondary option down the road where a hatch isn’t occurring. Your odds of catching fish will go up significantly. One of the most frequent questions I get from anglers is how to deal with bug hatches. Bug hatches on our natural lakes are good things. This means the ecosystem is working according to plan. The bad news is that nothing hinders fishing the way bug hatches do.
