Ohio Insider: Wildlife officer Trent Weaver represents fallen officer at ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Little did he know that one of the last assignments in Montgomery County Wildlife Officer Trent Weaver’s career would be one of the most rewarding.
Weaver in May was chosen to represent the Ohio Division of Wildlife in Washington, D.C., to honor late Montgomery County Wildlife Officer Harvey Monbeck. In 1927, Monbeck had been the game warden in the county for eight years when he was called to a poaching investigation south of Dayton.

Little Acme Dam a nice place to fish early summer in Pennsylvania’s Westmoreland County

Pennsylvania is blessed to have many small impoundments scattered across the state where an angler can make a quick trip to wet a line and catch some fish. One of those in the western portion of the state is Acme Dam in Westmoreland County.
At only 24 acres in size, it is easy to find a spot along the shoreline or on the water to fish, but it is the size of what you may catch that is most impressive in this little lake.

Notes off a soiled cuff: Plenty happening of late in Harrisburg related to Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania

House Bill 1431, which would fully repeal the ban on Sunday hunting in Pennsylvania, passed the state Senate June 26 by a 34-16 vote.
Introduced by Rep. Mandy Steele, D-Allegheny, the bill passed the state House of Representatives June 11. With the Senate’s vote, the bill headed back to the House of Representatives for a final vote on concurrence. If approved again, it would go to the governor’s desk to be signed into law.
