How do you catch a limit of Minnesota’s wild brook trout? Search in wild places

Not only do brook trout sport the best paint job in the business, they also live in some of the most beautiful streams the Upper Midwest has to offer. Finding them can take a little sleuthing, and catching them can require precision casting and subtle presentations, but the effort is always worth it. (Contributed photo)

There are brook trout scattered throughout Minnesota, and much of the Upper Midwest. While you might assume that they’re prevalent in areas most known for trout fishing in general, that’s not always the case.
Native brookies are out there, finning away in cold, clean water. To find them, you’ll have to do a little sleuthing.
