An adult male black bear estimated to weigh at least 300 pounds, based on the size of its tracks, killed five sheep last month and injured a sixth one so badly it had to be dispatched. The sheep were owned by Angel Kleiman from Powers in Menominee County, Mich., about 23 miles west of Escanaba.
About a week before the sheep were killed, a bear broke into a chicken coop on another farm 2-½ miles away and killed eight hens and eight guinea fowl.
